Purpose:
The purpose of the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre (MMYC) is to strengthen the
emotional, social, mental, and physical health and wellness of youth aged 10-18,
especially those who may be at risk due to their socio-economic environments, social
and familial relationships, and school situations. We accomplish this by providing a safe,
supervised environment where youth develop social and practical skills to become
engaged and productive members of society. MMYC offers casual drop-in programs as
well as structured programming, including fundraising and community partnership
events, all at low or no cost to participants.
The Youth Safety and Wellness Facilitator is responsible, in conjunction with the
Executive Director, Program Coordinator and Project Coordinator, for promoting mental
health, physical well-being and personal and community safety through programming,
advocacy and direct support.

Accountability:
The Youth Safety and Wellness Facilitator position reports directly to the MMYC
Executive Director and indirectly to the Program Coordinator and Project Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in social work, child and youth care, psychology, public health,
or a related field (or equivalent experience). - Minimum of 2 years working in youth services, mental health, crisis intervention,
or community health. - Availability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends to support
programming, fundraising and special events. - Knowledge and familiarity with local support agencies would be a strong asset.
- Clean and current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) report or eligibility and
willingness to obtain same upon hiring. - Valid First Aid and CPR level C, or willingness and ability to obtain same upon
hiring. - Assets: knowledge and familiarity with local support agencies, harm reduction,
restorative justice, trauma informed care, ASSIST training, Mental Health First
Aid.
Duties
- Working with Program Coordinator, Project Coordinator and Youth Activity Leader’s to facilitate wellness-focused programs, including mental health awareness workshops, self care activities, and life skills development.
- Ensure the youth centre is an emotionally and physically safety, healthy, inclusive and respectful space for all participants while upholding MMYC policies and procedures and confidentiality protocols.
- Act as a trusted mentor and advocate for youth, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
- Attend local schools regularly – in class presentations, workshops, parent engagement.
- Integrate trauma-informed practices into all programming to ensure youth feel supported and empowered.
- Provide one-on-one support and referrals for youth experience challenges related to mental health, substance use, family issues or personal safety.
- Document program outcomes, participant feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Model the values and mission of the centre in all interactions with youth, their families and the community, staff colleagues and engage with others in a professional and friendly manner.
- Assisting in maintaining the youth centre in a clean and organized state, inside and outside.
Compensation
$20/hour
